Grigory Grigorievich Myasoedov was born on the 7th (according to the old style of the 19th) on April 1834 in the village of Father did his best to encourage the boy, early interested in painting. G. Myasoedov began his studies at the Oryol Gymnasium, where he took drawing lessons from I. A. Volkov.

In 1853, the young man moved to St. Petersburg and entered the Academy of Fine Arts, where his teachers were T. Neff and A. Markov.

It so happened that the artist’s years of training fell on the crisis, which befell the educational institution, which was eventually resolved by the “riot of fourteen”. However, Myasoedov was not a witness to the rebellion himself, as he had already completed his studies.

In 1861, while still a student, the young artist created the painting "Congratulation of the Young", for which he was awarded a small gold medal. And already in the next 1862, he was awarded a large gold medal for the painting “The Flight of Gregory Otrepiev”. V.V. Stasov spoke of these works as one of the first steps towards the development of historical realism in Russian painting. In the future, the historical genre will be present in the artist’s work constantly.

At the end of the Academy of Arts, the Meat-Eater as a pensioner went abroad. The artist worked in Florence, Rome, Paris, Spain. His most famous works created during this period are Francesca da Rimini, as well as The Funeral of the Spanish Gypsies.

In 1869, Myasoedov returned to Russia. Soon for the canvas "Spells" he was awarded the title of academician. Even in Europe, the artist conceived the idea of creating a partnership of Wanderers, as a result, at the end of 1870, the first meeting of members of this community was organized. In November 1871, the First Mobile Art Exhibition was opened in St. Petersburg, which was then shown in other cities: Kiev, Moscow, Kharkov. At this exhibition was presented the work of G. Myasoedov “The Grandfather of the Russian Navy”, created in 1871. And in the spring of 1872 the Second Exhibition was held, where you could see the famous painting by the artist “Zemstvo dines”.

Grigory Myasoedov showed great interest in peasant life. And if the picture “Zemstvo dines” is ostritical in its orientation, then his other works tell of popular beliefs and rites (“Drought”, 1878-1880; “Plowing”, 1876), and about the joy of peasant labor (“Mowers”). The plots of the historical genre were embodied in the paintings "Reading the provisions of 02/19/1861" (1873) and Self-immolation (1884).

Landscape painting was not alien to the artist either, his canvases painted in this genre are distinguished by expressive motives and at the same time simplicity (“The Road in the Rye”, “Twilight”, “Rocks of Gurzuf”, all were written in 1881) Sometimes Myasoedov wrote and portraits, but still he cannot be called a portraitist.

Myasoedov spent the last years of his life near Poltava in the large Pavlenki estate with a park, a pond and a garden. Here he organized a drawing school and created the scenery for the local theater.

Grigory Myasoedov died in December 1911.
